William E. Abbe, 97, of Westmoreland passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Masonic Home in Utica, NY. He was born February 26, 1918 in Westmoreland, NY a son of the late Elisha and Ellen (Walker) Abbe. On January 11, 1941 he married Josephine Magee in Rome, NY; the couple spent 69 wonderful years together, before her passing in 2010. Bill grew up in Westmoreland and graduated from Westmoreland Central School. By trade he was a mechanic all of his life, retiring from the Town of Marshall. He was a Past Master of the Clinton-Hampton Lodge 347, a Mason of 71 years, a lifetime member of the Bartlett Baptist Church and a member of the Westlanders. He was an avid hunter and camper. William and Josephine lived on Dix Road in the town of Westmoreland for several years, before moving to Boonville. For 20 years, they lived in Waterville, before retiring and building a new home back to the town of Westmoreland on Bartlett Road. On October 4, 2014, he married Mary Robinson in the Masonic Chapel, who brought him great joy. He is survived by his wife, Mary; all four of his children and families; Eleanor (daughter) and Ronald Cyr of Wellesley Island and Boonville, Barbara (daughter) and Douglas Fobare of Sauquoit, Edwin (son) and Darlene Abbe of Waterville, and Susan (daughter) Crosier of Binghamton; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Hammond; and sister-in-law, Lucille Abbe. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Masonic Home who took care of him these last 2 ½ years. Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton, NY. The Funeral will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday evening, with a graveside service 10 a.m., Monday, at Westmoreland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Bartlett Baptist Church, 5639 Bartlett Road, Rome, NY 13440.
