Elizabeth McFadden, 98, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones. Elizabeth was born September 28, 1916 in Syracuse, NY. She was the daughter of the late Marie and Clarence Hines. As well as raising 8 children, Elizabeth was the foster mother of 122 children through the years. She was a CNA and a volunteer for a number of years at the Lutheran Home in Clinton, NY which was also her home for the last 6 years. She was the recipient of a number of awards including the DeWitt Clinton Public Service Award and in 1977 was named foster mother of the year by the Oneida County Foster Parent Association. A very caring mother for her children and for others. She once reflected on her own growing up in an orphanage and foster homes - " I lived in 16 different homes by the time I was 17 and it wasn't pleasant and I think that is why I have so much love for children". She is survived by 8 children, Lennis and Dorothy of Holley, NY, Milburn and Theresa of Clark Mills, Ethel Whaley of Deansboro, Ronald and Riley of Clinton, Charles and Sharon of Clinton, Sharon Tielking of Utica, Mary Ann and Barry of Massachusetts, Debbie Stone of Florida; 22 grandchildren, 33 great- grand children and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Private services will be held for the family. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., Clinton. Our family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Lutheran Care, Dr. Chabot and her friends for taking special care of her. Please consider donations in her memory to COCVAC or Lutheran Care Foundation.
