Obituary of Marjorie Verena Eckel Hart

Marjorie Verena Eckel Hart, 78, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2014 at the Siegenthaler Center. She was born September 5, 1935, in Vienna, a daughter of the late Verne R. and Margaret (Cook) Eckel. Marj was a graduate of Camden Central School and received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Oneonta State Teachers College. She taught Home Economics in Utica and Whitesboro, before retiring in 1990. Marj was united in marriage to Russell F. Hart on July 12, 1958 in Vienna, a blessed union of love and friendship for 56 years. Marj was an active member of the Clinton United Methodist Church. She was a skilled quilter and member of the Mohawk Valley Quilt Guild. She was a lifetime member of the New York State Home Economics Association and past president of the Oneida County Cornell Cooperative Extension and received the Dave Agnee Award in 1990. Marj was proud to be a teacher and of her accomplishments in life, but most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Russell; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Alice Hart of Kirkwood, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Verena and David Brown of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Decker and her husband Brian of Binghamton, Matthew Hart and his wife Melissa of Kirkwood, Patrick Hart in the US Navy, Nathan Brown and Philip Brown both of El Paso, TX; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Decker; her three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lorna Cable of Camden, Julia and Randall Gafner of New London and Ethel and Alan Palmer of Fish Creek Landing; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Lois Eckel and Aaron and Lila Eckel, all of Fish Creek Landing; and many nieces and nephews. All are invited to call Monday, August 18, 2014 from 10- Noon at Clinton United Methodist Church and stay for funeral services at Noon at the church. Her burial will be in Fish Creek Landing Cemetery immediately following services. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., Clinton.
